Fuerte

The Fuerte has a traditional pear shape - thus the term 'avocado pear' - and a smooth, green skin. Fuerte avocados are usually medium sized.

The Summer Avocado season for Fuerte runs from May, or slightly earlier, to July.

The fruit is grown in South Africa's Limpopo and Mpumulanga provinces, from where the first supplies we get in Britain come from, as well as the Kwazulu-Natal province.

Hass

The Hass variety is a round or egg shaped fruit, with thick, pebbly skin that is dark green to purple/black in colour.

The size is small to medium size (140-350g) and summer fruit from South Africa is available in the shops from June/July through until September and often into October.

Early fruit is from South Africa's Limpopo and Mpumulanga province and then later from the Kwazulu-Natal province. The Hass variety has a rich and nutty taste

Pinkerton

Pinkerton avocados have small seeds, yield more fruit per tree and are available in a full range of sizes early winter through spring.
